Liraglutide
FDA-approvedGLP-1 receptor agonist (incretin mimetic peptide) · Also known as Victoza, Saxenda, NN2211
Overview
Liraglutide is a once-daily injectable GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the incretin hormone GLP-1 to enhance glucose-dependent insulin secretion, slow gastric emptying, and reduce appetite. It is one of the better-evidenced peptides on the market: it is FDA-approved and supported by large Phase 3 trials, sold as Victoza for type 2 diabetes and as Saxenda for chronic weight management. Approval is indication-specific, and as with any approved drug, off-label use is not an endorsement. It is a true peptide analog of human GLP-1.

What to Track
Data points you and your clinician might monitor. For observation only — not a diagnostic protocol.
- Smart scale — weight and body-fat % trend
- Labs — HbA1c and fasting glucose for glycemic response
- Labs — lipid panel if a clinician is monitoring cardiometabolic risk
- MyFitnessPal — calories and protein g/kg, since appetite suppression can reduce intake
- Subjective — daily nausea, appetite, and GI tolerability check-ins

Safety & legal notes
FDA-approved (Victoza 2010; Saxenda 2014); a generic injectable version has also been approved. Carries a boxed warning for risk of thyroid C-cell tumors based on rodent data; contraindicated in personal/family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Other notable signals include pancreatitis risk and gallbladder events. GLP-1 receptor agonists are on WADA's monitoring program but are NOT currently prohibited in sport (2026 List). Educational information only — use under a licensed clinician.
